Historical Background:

  • Idea of establishing a Masjid to serve the growing Muslim Community in the eastern section of Santa Clarita Valley was conceived in the summer months of 2012.
  • First community meeting was held in February 2013 to come-up with a coherent plan for establishing the Masjid, and idea of establishing the Masjid received overwhelming support.
March 2013: Nonprofit incorporation
June 2013: Tax exemption approval.
Oct. 2013: 1.1 acre property purchased for $850,000. A five years loan of $650,000 made the purchase possible.
Nov. 2014: MUP entitling the property to become a Masjid was issued.
Dec. 2014: Construction permit for all projects mandated by the MUP was issued.

Jan. – Dec. 2015: The following projects were completed:
  • Men & women bathrooms & Wudu facilities.
  • Upgrading of electric service and lighting.
  • Upgrading of HVAC system
  • All new ADA compliant entry doors.
  • New siding, parapet roof, and decorative stone siding to beautify frontal appearance of Masjid.
  • ADA ramps and rails
  • Carpeting,
  • Security cameras
  • Masjid Sign.
  • New main water supply line.
  • Removal of septic tank.
  • New sewer system tied into public sewer line.
  • 200’ of 6’ block wall along western property line.
  • Parking lot lighting.
  • Curbs around all landscaped areas.
  • Paving and striping parking lot (53 spaces with 3 handicap spaces).
  • Irrigated landscaping throughout the property.
  • Motor operated entry gate
Dec. 2015: Upon the successful completion of all projects just listed, the City of Santa Clarita issued the Certificate of Occupancy.

2020-2022
  1. Completed video surveillance system 
  2. Completed gate access control system.
  3. Installed solar powered lights throughout parking lot and masjid patio.
  4. Installed access control for prayer hall.
  5. Installed intrusion alarm system for prayer hall. 
Dec. 2021: 1/2 acre property immediately north of the Masjid (currently used for parking – see photo below) was acquired at the end of 2021 for $575,000. The property has expanded parking availability.
Jan. 2022-March, 2023:  Following projects were completed on new lot:
  1. Lighting project which included switching the parking lot at 18027 Sierra Highway to LEDS.
  2. New video surveillance system which included cameras, IR illuminators, and equipment necessary to integrate the new system with the existing VSS at 18027 Sierra Highway. 
  3. Wrought iron fencing along the west and NW boundaries of the lot.
  4. A new 20 foot long by 8-foot-high wrought iron gate along the NW corner, and 4 foot long by 6-foot-high wrought iron gate in the West boundary fence. 
  5. Removed chain-link fencing separating the new lot from the parking lot at 18027 Sierra Highway & built a driving ramp connecting the lots to each other.

Al-Umma Center of SCV was founded in the heart of Santa Clarita Valley to create a space for education, worship, and community building in line with Islamic teachings.
